Major ringing events
From time to time there are events for which all ringers are asked to try to ring if possible. They may be major events of national significance, like the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, or they may be special appeals, like the Church's request for ringers to ring on World Climate Day. These requests for concerted ringing stand out above the steady flow of anniversaries of interesting historical events and annual festivals for which ringers often choose to ring anyway.
Upcoming events for which widespread ringing has been requested include:
- Diamond Jubilee
- Monday 6 February 2012 is the 60th anniversary of the Accession, the day Elizabeth became Queen, upon the death of her father, King George.
- Saturday 2 to Tuesday 5 June 2012 Jubilee Bank Holiday. This is is an extended holiday weekend with special events on several days over the weekend, both in London and in towns across the realm. See details
- Sunday 2 June 2013 is the 60th anniversary of the Queen's Coronation in Westminster Abbey in 1953.
- Olympic Games
- Friday 18 May to Thursday 26 July the Olympic Flame will travel around UK, with many opportunities to ring in the areas through which it passes. See details
- Friday 27 July to Sunday 12 August the Olympic Games will be held in East London, with several events at other venues around the country. Opportunities to ring, notably for the start and end, and for events at the other venues.
- Wednesday 29 August to Sunday 9 September the Paralympic Games will be held in East London, with several events at other venues around the country. Opportunities to ring, notably for the start and end, and for events at the other venues.
