The Executive Download #1

An informal peek into the activities of the the Executive, by Angela Elliott

The month rolled round very quickly, and another Executive meeting was upon us. As is always the way with ‘official’ meetings the initial discussion was to confirm previous meeting notes and to glance meaningfully at actions agreed at the last meeting. One such action was to meet with affiliated University Societies, which took place on 20th October. The upshot of said discussion was the agreement that most societies can afford the 40p raise in subscriptions but that they would hold an open meeting in the new year and discuss with their membership. With regards to membership across other categories, a task group will look at this with a view to clarifying membership types and criteria.

Moving on, ‘housekeeping’ this month included mention of the CRAG report, which will be made available on the Central Council website, and the Independent Examiners report, which has been submitted to the Charity Commission. The Publications Team have sold out of that much lauded best seller Ringing Circles and thus, approval was given to purchase 500 more copies. They’re going like hot cakes – get yours now! In a similar vein, the bellringing portal for branded T-Shirts and banners gives bellringers everywhere the opportunity for a retail experience I just know you all crave (see next week’s Ringing World).

The Exec acknowledged the donation of £2k towards the new Rolls of Honour book and agreed to top up the funding by another £2500. This leads quite neatly onto budget and business plans around Ringing 2030. Whilst some estimates have been made by the Exec, Workgroups are struggling to articulate budget for future items, and it may be that assistance is required to complete this onerous task.

While we’re on the matter of Workgroups, various matters were touched on such as Safeguarding – yes, the website needs updating; Young Ringers – there will be an article in Ringing World on this; R2030 Environments – the noise complaint function now works; Publications – moving forward with gusto; History and Archives – a harder kettle of fish to pin down, as is Marketing.

And so another productive meeting drew to a close with dates set for the next meeting and tasks divvied up between the Exec. Onwards and upwards!
