The Council’s draft Code for Ringing is a resource in the form of a template that can be freely used and adapted by parishes and ringing societies who wish to develop their own code of conduct for bell ringing.
It takes the form of a recommended checklist summarising the values of the ringing community and results from a recommendation from the Social Care Institute of Excellence that the Council should develop a clear position on good practice and should offer resources for guilds wishing to develop their own policies.
The draft code was reviewed by four territorial guilds in Summer 2023, whose comments were incorporated in the draft.
It was approved by the Council’s Executive on 27th September as a “Rule 10.4 Policy”, to take effect from 1st January, 2024. During its preparation a number enquiries were received from guilds and towers wishing to receive a copy of the code when it was launched. An advance copy of the Code has therefore been made available to view or download below:Code for Ringing Edition 1 – v1-2
