In lots of towers, it is tradition to ring the old year out and the new year in.  It’s part of the Christmas time celebrations.  I remember when I was young we made a big thing of it and had a party in the ringing room with food and drink, bought friends and family along too.

The Central Council has been talking with event organisers in the US who host an annual National Bell Festival, and this year are spotlighting ringing in the UK https://www.bells.org/united-kingdom and are particularly inviting UK ringers to join in the Bell Festival.
