The Central Council of Church Bell Ringers has reformed its Marketing Workgroup to help deliver the Ringing 2030 goals of growing and diversifying our community. We are a small but internationally representative group of volunteers — including ringers from North America and Australia, returning ringers who came back to the activity after a gap, and younger ringers who joined more recently — bringing a breadth of lived experience to our work.
Our specific focus is the 20–40 age group: the “missing generation” identified in national surveys as the demographic least represented in bell ringing today. Engaging this group is our primary mission. The workgroup complements — but does not duplicate — the separate CCCBR workgroup focused on ringers under 20, and Recruit, Regain, Retain (3R’s) arm of the Recruitment & Development workgroup. We also work alongside other initiatives to ensure a joined-up approach.
Our work covers three main areas:
- refreshing and promoting the bell ringing brand (built around the values of being Adventurous, Welcoming, Dynamic and Logical);
- supporting local associations with ready-made marketing materials, Canva templates, and consistent branding; and
- developing strategies specifically designed to support reaching and retain adults in their twenties and thirties — people who may never have rung, or who learned and drifted away.
What we’re working on and when:
For now our priorities are:
- Refreshing the recruitment leaflet with updated branding
- Researching how to reach the 20–40 demographic effectively — including where they spend time, what motivates them, and what channels work
- Building a library of short videos and images showing real people ringing and enjoying ringing related activities
- Coordinating social media activity using the #WeAreBellRinging hashtag
Over the coming months we will be developing a fuller strategy and campaign framework, feeding into the broader Ringing 2030 roadmap.
How you can help:
- Share your own short videos or photos of ringing on social media — authenticity matters as much as production quality
- Use #WeAreBellRinging in all your posts to build our shared content library
- Request Canva access through your association to use professionally branded templates
- Tell us what you know about the 20–40 group in your area — what’s worked, what hasn’t, who’s come through the door and who hasn’t
- Let us know if you have contacts, ideas, or examples from other sectors that might help us reach this generation

There are people in their twenties and thirties who would love bell ringing — our job is to make sure they find it.
