Hello, I am one of the leaders for our local youth bell ringing team "the Vectis Youths", our group of fresh new, young ringers, aged from 10 to 14.
They have all shown potential and have been visiting different towers on the Isle of Wight and have been practicing for entering the ringing world national youth contest this year. We need to raise a substantial amount of money to be able to go, which includes ferry fair, mini bus hire, accommodation and meals for the weekend.
These young people have come together and learnt to work together, helped each other, encourage each other, developing friendships with new people and trying new bells.
Some of these young ringers have been learning for only a year and have come on leaps and bounds. 2 of the ringers have been ringing for about 3 years and are working together to call the call changes, and row count to help the team out, another ringer is high on the autism spectrum and is over coming a language and communication barrier and is brilliant at hearing where his bell needs to be, 3 of the ringers are extremely shy and joining bell ringing, and the youth team have really helped them come out of their shells and their confidence is shining through, our youngest and smallest member of the team and a mighty ringer, put her on any bell, big or small, and she will ring it as if she was the tallest on the team.
All 7 of these youngsters deserve to go and grow their experience of competing nationally and showing the rest of the country what a small island can exceed.
Thank you for reading our application.
