Application:
My name is Charlotte Greenhalgh, I am 15 years old and I live in Perth, Western Australia. I have been ringing since I was eight years old and I would like to be considered for this Award.
I have shown leadership qualities by encouraging other young ringers in my area to attend the ANZAB Youth Event which is being held in Hobart this April for ringers in Australia and New Zealand under the age of 30. I attended last year's event in Adelaide and thoroughly enjoyed it but felt that Perth required more representation. This year I ensured that other young ringers in Perth were aware of the event and succeeded in convincing three others to attend in 2026! I can call changes and have also recently learnt how to call touches of Grandsire Doubles and a touch of Stedman Triples (both of which I call regularly). This helps those running the practices as I can lead touches. Another way that I support ringing in Perth and particularly at my home tower on a Sunday morning, is by strategically placing myself within the band to ensure that the best striking can be achieved with the available ringers. This can look like placing myself on the treble because I know that the ringer of the two is consistently late at hand-stroke and this way at least the change can start off as well struck as possible. As well as this, I have recently begun to be able to put others right during ringing or at least know where they should be even if don't correct them. This also includes correcting striking.
I would use this Award money to help me travel to other cities across Australia to further improve my ringing. Perth is extremely isolated from the rest of Australia, with the nearest city being Adelaide which is usually a flight of at least three hours away. This means that it is not only time consuming and impractical to travel for ringing, but also quite expensive. In Perth, we don't have a 12-bell band, and we can only just occasionally scrape together a Royal band, which means that I don't often get the opportunity to ring on higher numbers. Last October, I was given the honour of being elected as a member of the Ancient Society of College Youths and was fortunate to attend their UK25 tour shortly after. While there, I began to learn to ring Cinques and Maximus, but sadly I have not had the opportunity to ring these methods since the tour ended. This Award would allow me to attend more ringing events and drastically improve my ringing ability, particularly on higher numbers. This will further enable me to help others with their learning, on higher numbers in particular, and help me to become a better leader for the Perth ringing community.
Thank you for your consideration,
Charlotte Greenhalgh

Leadership evidence: Encourages youth participation across her region, leads touches, helps strike management, and supports Sunday ringing. Shows proactive steps in an isolated ringing community.
Use of funds: Very strong case—travel is essential to her development due to Perth’s isolation.
✅ Strong leadership in a challenging environment.
Leadership: Good advocate for the ANZAB event, encouraging others to join and extending the knowledge of the meeting to others in her area.
Dedication Makes and takes all opportunities
Skills/experience, Keen to learn and extend her knowledge, but limited opportunity to learn more complex ringing – would be able to expand this with further travel.
Funding Good use of funding – transport, especially from an area so far remote from other places, is important
