Application:

Hello,
My name is Daniel Adderley and I am a 15-year-old ringer at Weaverham in the Chester Diocesan Guild. I have been ringing for just over three years now.

For me, leadership in ringing isn’t about being the controller. It’s about being there for others, lending a hand, and making sure the bels keep ringing, even when things get tough.
Every Monday night, I volunteer at a local tower that’s really struggling to stay active. Almost every week, I’m the only one who can conduct, so I end up leading almost by default. But for me, it’s much more than just calling touches. I try to encourage everyone who turns up, help them get better, and keep things going even when we’re short on numbers. I want everyone to feel welcome, and for ringing to be something people look forward to — not something they feel stressed about.
I’ve learned that leadership is usually quiet. It’s about being reliable, setting a good example, and doing what needs to be done without being asked. If I didn’t turn up on those Mondays, there’s a real chance the tower wouldn’t ring at all — and that’s something I don’t want to see happen.
Winning this competition would make a real difference. I would use the £500 to advertise ringing in the local monthly magazine, helping us reach people who might never have thought about trying it. At the moment, the tower feels uncertain, and without new ringers it could easily fall silent. This funding would give us a chance to change that — to bring in new learners, build a regular band again, and keep the tradition alive in my historic area.
I care deeply about ringing, but more than that, I care about making sure it continues for others. That’s why I lead where I can — and why this opportunity would mean so much.

Thank you very much.
