First peal of twelve bells: 2,3,8. First peal of Erin Cinques by all the band, by the association, and on the bells. Rung with the bells muffled as a tribute of respect to the memory of Mrs. J. Newcombe, of Gosforth , whose death took place on Jan. 11th. William Lister Newcombe, F.R.I.B.A.. Esq., and Mrs. Newcombe, were the donors of the two trebles to the above Cathedral to complete the peal of twelve, which were dedicated on Easter Sunday, 1914. The above band are all members of the Cathedral Guild, of which Mr. Newcombe is a vice-president.
[This peal was not believed to be the first as an earlier peal was rung at West Bromwich, but that has been found false]
