Born 2nd quarter 1883 and baptised 15/07/1883 at All Saints, Feering, Essex. Son of William Mead and Esther Mead of Pattiswick, Essex. Husband of Eliza Gertie Mead (nee Peck) (note that CWGC says Ethel Gertrude Mead) whom he married in September 1911, of 25 Stowupland Street, Stowmarket, Suffolk. Father of William Oliver Edgar Mead (born 1912), George Edward Arthur Mead (born 1913) and Frederick James Victor Mead (born 1915, in Stowmarket). At the time of the 1911 census he was working as a coachman at "The Park", Ardleigh, Essex, for Lieutenant Colonel Alfred Charles Bennett DSO. His former employer, Lieutenant Colonel Bennett, died during the Great War, on 16/01/1915 while serving as a Recruiting Officer in Southend, Essex, and is buried in Ardleigh Cemetery, Essex.
