New publication explains ringing to the Church

The Central Council today launched a new publication “From Practice to Perfect – a short guide for clergy, PCCs and Safeguarding Advisors” which has been written specifically to explain ringing, its organisation, training and safeguarding arrangements to clergy, PCCs and Safeguarding Advisers.

The Church of England’s National Safeguarding Learning and Development Manager, Lisa Clarke, has distributed it to all Diocesan Safeguarding Advisers.

The publication explains why we ring, who ringers are, how we are organised, our arrangements for training, insurance and safeguarding, and the importance to ringers of travelling around and developing our skills, but also how bells add value to the Church’s ministry by providing the outward voice that speaks to all. It is hoped that the publication will inform readers that behind the activity about which they may know relatively little, there are well organised and developed structures in which they can have confidence.

From Practice to Perfect has been written with thanks to the National Safeguarding Team and the dioceses of Canterbury, Hereford, Durham and Winchester, who kindly reviewed an advance copy of this publication. Its production was also supported by The Ringing World and the Association of Ringing Teachers.
