YCRA Event

Back at the RWNYC we launched the Young Change Ringers Association, or YCRA. This was the culmination of a year’s work by a group of young ringers, all under the age of 30. For those who haven’t heard of us yet, we are an association of Young Ringers, created by Young Ringers, for Young Ringers. We have two main aims, to create a mentoring support scheme for young ringers, to connect them wherever they may be. The second is to host several large events a year, again to foster that connection between young ringers. Membership for the year is £15 and gives access to all the benefits listed above.

We now have a date and a location for our first YCRA event, which is Birmingham on the 15th January 2022. This will consist of ringing at several towers around Birmingham, including some ringing on 16 at St Martins in the Bullring. There will be an evening social, with this to be decided on once we get a better idea of numbers! Tickets will be available at the end of November from our website, which is www.ycra.org.uk . These tickets are free to those who are members of the YCRA, it just gives us an idea of who is coming to the event. If your young ringers want to come to this event, all they need to do is sign up to the YCRA and register for a ticket.

What we would like you to consider is signing your young ringers up en masse to this new association. Think of this as an investment into young ringing. The ringers you sign up to our association, with the money it provides, will foster young ringing for the next generation. These young ringers will, in the future, sit where you are now as the leaders of our ringing institutions, but this can only happen if we all foster young ringing now. What I’m not saying is the YCRA is the only thing for young ringing and young ringers, the work you all do in your associations is invaluable, we just hope it will be another way to retain our young ringers for the future.
